‘Lotus’ to be screened at Varesh film festival

Iranian documentary ‘Lotus’ is slated to vie at the Varesh International Film Festival in Iran.

Directed by Mohammadreza Vatandoust, the film has been introduced as one of the movies of the international competition section.

The documentary tells the story of an old woman who has been waiting for 12 years to get permission to enter an island. She wants to meet the only resident who lives there.

The successful documentary has participated in a number of international festivals and garnered top awards. Some of the festivals are the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival and the Roshd International Film Festival.

Lotus was selected to be screened at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival in the UK, to go on screen at the Cervino Cinemountain International Film Festival in Italy and to compete at 2018 LA Film Festival in the US.

The Varesh International Film Festival aims at strengthening and supporting anthropological films and introducing the common cultural heritage of the Caspian Sea littoral states.

Identifying new talents are also among the main objectives of the festival.

The 9th edition of the festival will be held in the northern city of Babol in Mazandaran Province on April 29 – May 3, 2019.
